Going to Johar Market

My mother and I went shopping to Pasar Johar Market last Sunday. We took a bus at 8 a.m. and got there at 10 a.m.

We went to the fruit section. We bought two kilograms of guavas and three papayas. After that, we went to the fish section to buy two kilograms of fresh fish. Then we went to the fashion shop to buy dresses for my sister.

Pasar Johar was very hot at that time. I felt so thirsty, so I asked my mother to have some drink at a small food stall nearby.
We went home at 11 a.m. by a taxi because we had to go to our family in Semarang.

Tracy's Experience

On the way to the bus stop yesterday, Tracy slipped on wet leaves and hurt her foot. Some people helped her stand up. Then, she went home. Her mother was surprised at that time. And then her mother took her to the hospital.

In the hospital, her mother parked the car in NO PARKING area and then she helped her daughter walk to the doctor. It wasn’t a serious accident, but it was very expensive. The X-ray, ice treatment, and bandage cost $320.

After that Tracy and her mother went back to their car. There was a traffic police officer near their car. He gave her a ticket. The fine was $80. Then, on the way home, Tracy’s mother hit a telephone pole. It cost $500 to fix it. Finally they went home and they were very tired.

Albert Einstein (2)

Albert Einstein was born near the end of the 1800s in Ulf, Germany. He graduated from the University of Zurich in Switzerland at age 26. That was also when he did his famous work in physics. Fourteen years later he won the Nobel Prize for Physics.
For the next ten years he lived in Germany and traveled a lot to talk to other scientists. Then in the early 1930s he had to leave Germany because of Hitler and the Nazi party. He moved to the United States. From that time until his death he lived in Princeton, New Jersey. He died at the age of 74.

Albert Einstein (1)

Albert Einstein was born in 1879 in Ulm. Germany. He graduated from the University of Zurich in Switzerland in 1905. In 1905 he also did some of his most famous work in physics. In 1919 he won the Nobel Prize for Physics.

He moved to the United States. From 1933 until his death he lived in Princeton, New Jersey. He died on April 18, 1955.

Julius Caesar

Born in 100 BC, a member of an important Roman family, Julius Caesar was one of the greatest men who ever lived. He was outstanding as a statesman, a general, an orator, a historian, a law-maker, a ruler … and, as even his enemies said, a conversationalist!
From his youth he held public office, and in 60 BC he became one of the three equal heads of government. For ten years he commanded the Roman armies in Gaul, conquering large parts of Britain and Germany. He then returned to Italy and, by crossing the River Rubicon, began a civil war in which he was victorious. He became the master of the Roman Empire and was largely responsible for the shape of today’s Europe. He was assassinated in 44 BC but even 2,000 years later, rulers were still using his name: Kaiser, Tsar or Czar, Shah, all was ‘Caesars’.

A Nail Soup

One day, a hungry man knocked on a woman’s door and asked for food. She said, “I don’t have any food for you.”
“That’s OK,” the man replied. “I have a nail. I can make us some soup.”
The woman let him in. the man put his nail into a pot of water and said, “It’s always tastier when I put in some celery and salt.” The woman wanted some nail soup. So she got him some celery and salt.
Next the man said, “Onions and potatoes make the soup cook faster.” The woman was very hungry. So she put some onions and potatoes into the pot too. The soup boiled and boiled.
The woman said, “It smells delicious.”
The man smiled and said, “Yes, and I made it with just a nail!”

An Excursion

On Thursday, Class 8 A went on an excursion to observe plants.
First we went to Port Kembla Beach. There were not many plants because of the salt and the sand. Then we got back on the bus.
Next we went to steelworks. We sat on a hill and observed the plants. We saw bushes and grass. Not many plants grow because of the pollution.
We got back on the bus and went to Mt. Keira rainforest. We got off the bus and ate our little lunch in the cleaning area. We saw many different types of plants and trees. We saw wattle trees, tall trees, thin trees, and rock plants.
After that we got back on the bus and went back to school. We arrived at school at 12 o’clock. Then we went into school and talked about our excursion.
We had GREAT fun!!!!

REMOTE CONTROL RACING CARS

On the weekend of the 3rd of March, I went to the Ryde BMX track with Robert and Christ.
When we got there it was very crowded in the car park and we wondered where everyone was because there weren’t many people on the BMX track.
So we parked the car and then we saw a lot of people surrounding a little track with speeding cars going around it. There were also about five people controlling the cars from a high platform. The cars were about 30 cms long and 15 cms wide with big tread on the tyres and a flap on the front so that they wouldn’t tip over.
The after the races they were awarding trophies to the winners. When we were just going a boy was controlling a car around the track and it was going very fast. Someone else had a three wheeler motorbike, but it didn’t go as fast. Then we had to go, so we packed up the car and then we left.

Jump Rope for Heart

Last year pupils of Lurnea Public School took part in Jump Rope for Heart. It was a very exciting day for everyone involved and the person who organized it all was Mrs. Macklin.
There is a great deal of organization involved in preparing a Jump Rope for Heart program. Mrs. Macklin had to start preparing Jump Rope for Heart a couple of months before the actual day as she had to organize groups and different skipping routines.
Mrs. Macklin first got the idea to arrange Jump Rope for Heart Program, when some of her friends organized a similar day which was a huge success. She realized that it would be a good opportunity for the whole school to participate in something as well as being a chance to get fit.
Everyone received a list to see how many sponsors we could get. We raised between $ 4,000.00 and $ 5,000.00 of which the school received 10%. The remainder of the money went to the Heart Foundation of New South Wales.
If your sporting group (cubs, scouts, brownies, Girl Guides etc) would like to help a good cause and also get fit at the same time, just contact the national Heart Foundation of New South Wales for details. A big thank you is addressed to Mrs. Macklin for her time and effort in making our day a big success.

Going on Camping

Bob and Greg were new to camping. They didn’t know the rules.
After they helped their dad put up the tent, they wanted to watch up TV. They took the TV out of their camping bag. When their dad knew the TV, he said, “Why did you bring that? There was no electricity!”
That night it was cold. The boys didn’t want to use their electric blanket. They remembered they didn’t have any electricity. They slept only three hours because they were cold.
When they got up in the morning, they wanted to wash in the cold lake water. And there were any fresh milk or orange juice to drink.
When the boys got home, they ran into the house. They turned on the television and sat under the electric blanket. “What are you and Bob doing?” their dad asked. “We’re just happy to be home,” the boys said.

The Big New York Blackout

On a very hot evening last week, a summer storm knocked out high-voltage power lines in the New York suburbs and within the hour returned 9 million people to the dark. The city became very quiet and hot. For a night and a day, nothing worked except telephones, transistor radios … Subways ran dead. Elevators did not work. Water pumps failed, and with them sinks, tubs, and toilets. Streetlights and spotlights went out. And in the ghettos, the thieves and burners were soon in the street. They tore off the protective metal grills, broke shop windows and started fires. More than 2000 stores were pillaged.

Sticky Fingers

After breakfast, I sent the children to school and then I went to market.
It was still early when I returned home. The children were at school, my husband was at work and the house was quiet. So I decided to make some tarts for tea.
In a short time, I was busy mixing butter and flour and my hands were soon covered with sticky pastry. At exactly that moment, the telephone rang. I picked up the receiver between two sticky fingers and was dismayed when I recognized the voice. It was Mrs. Bates. It took me ten minutes to persuade her to ring back later.
At last I hung up the receiver. There was pastry on my fingers, on the telephone, and on the door-knobs.
Suddenly, the bell rang, very loudly. This time was the postman. He wanted me to sign for a registered letter. What a mess!

Shopping Made Easy

A detective recently watched a well-dressed woman who always went into a large store on Monday mornings.
One day, there were fewer people in the shop than usual when the woman came in, so it was easier for the detective to watch her.
The woman first bought few small articles. After a little time, she chose one of the most expensive dresses in the shop and handed it to an assistant who wrapped it up for her as quickly as possible. Then the woman simply took the parcel and walked out of the shop without paying. When she was arrested, the detective found out that the shop assistant was her daughter.

A Pity Boy

Peter was ten years old. One day, his friend, Paul, said to him, “I’m going to have a birthday party on Saturday, Peter. Can you come?”
Peter asked his mother, and she said, “Yes, you can go.” She phoned Paul’s mother to tell her.
Before Peter went to the party on Saturday afternoon, his mother said to him, “Now, Peter, don’t forget to be polite. Don’t ask for food. Wait until someone gives it to you.”
“All right, Mom,” Peter answered, and he went to Paul’s house on his bicycle.
There were a lot of children at the party. They played together for an hour, and then Paul’s mother gave them some food. Unfortunately, she forgot to give Peter any. He waited politely for a few minutes, and then he held his plate up in the air and said loudly, “Does anyone want a nice clean plate?”

Nora's experience

Nora was sixteen years old. She had a little brother. Her brother’s name was Jim. Jim was sometimes naughty. But he made Nora laugh a lot, and she loved him and was always very nice to him.
One afternoon she was walking from her house to the store when she saw a small boy running along the street towards her. He was going very fast. When he came near her, she was surprised to see it was Jim.
“Hi, Jim,” Nora shouted to him. “Why are you running like that?”
Jim didn’t stop, but he waved to his sister and shouted. “I’m trying to stop two boys from fighting.”
Nora was surprised again. She laughed and said, “That’s an important job for a little boy, isn’t it? You don’t do things like that very often. Who are the two boys?”
“They are Tom and me,” answered Jim as he continued running down the street very quickly.

The Swimming Carnival

On Monday 21st February, Years 3-6 went to their school swimming carnival at Baulkham Hills pool.
Eight buses took us there. I was in the fifth bus. Miss Schwager couldn’t come with us because she had work to do, so we went with Mrs. Hopwood instead.
When we arrived the teachers told us to sit in our house areas. My house is called Yindi.
The first race I entered was the freestyle. I came third and won a green ribbon. My next race was backstroke. I came fifth. I think freestyle is easier. People said it was freezing in the pool, but once you were in for a little while, it didn’t seem so cold.
Later on my friend swam in the butterfly race and won!
After lunch the house captains organized the relays. We cheered so hard for the Yindi teams, I nearly lost my voice.
Finally my mum arrived to take me home. I was so tired I fell asleep on the couch.
But I was as happy as my dog’s tail because guess what? My house won!

Please send me a Card

Postcards always spoil my holidays. Last summer, I went to Italy. I visited museums and sat in public gardens. A friendly waiter taught me a few words of Italian. Then he lent me a book. I read a few lines, but I did not understand a word. Everyday I thought about postcards. My holidays passed quickly, but I did not send any cards to my friends. On the last day I made a big decision. I got up early and bought thirty seven cards. I spent the whole day in my room, but I did not write a single card.

Painting the Hall

One morning, one of the Witch’s friends came over to visit. When she looked around the room, she said, “Your house is ugly. My house is more beautiful than yours, and the walls are brighter.” The Witch was very angry when she heard this and she shouted, “Get out of my house! And don’t ever come back here!”
After his friend left, the Witch looked around her house and she said to herself, “My friend was right. My house looks ugly and the paint is faded. I have to repaint it.” Then she went to the shop and bought a can of paint.
After lunch she started to paint, and she worked very carefully. In the afternoon she finished the lower part of her house. When she wanted to start painting the upper part she found out that she couldn’t reach it. Then she got an idea. “I will use my magic broom!” she shouted. “Broom, oh my broom, turn into a paint and paint my walls!”
Suddenly the broom turned into a paint brush and it started to paint the upper walls. It worked very fast, and in ten minutes all the job was done. The Witch was very happy.

Going to Amazon River

One day, when I went on a picnic to a lake I met somebody. He asked me some food. I gave him food and drink. After that, for return he gave me a carpet, a beautiful carpet. After giving the carpet, suddenly he was disappeared. I was surprised. Not long after that I sat on the carpet. Once again, I was surprised because the carpet could fly. It could take me everywhere.
One day, I visited Brazil. Before going there, I called my friends. Then, we bought fishing equipments. After ready, then we went to Amazon River. You know Amazon? It is a very famous river in Brazil. We went there because in Amazon there are some big fish.
We left home at 8 o’clock in the morning. One hour later, we arrived in Amazon River, and we went on fishing. Two minutes later, a fish ate my friend’s bait. He removed his bait, and … surprisingly, he got a piranha.
One hour later, our bucket was full of fish. But there were still a fish eating my bait. In this case, I could not remove my bait alone. The fish was very big and strong. With my friend’s help, finally I could remove the bait. We were very surprised because I got … you know … Arapaima. Arapaima was the biggest fish in Brazil.
After fishing in Amazon, we went home. Suddenly I heard a deep voice, “Fanny …, Fanny …Get up, my dear. It’s morning,” My mother called me. Then, I got up from my bed. “That’s too bad. I went to Brazil but that’s just a dream”. I dream of going to Brazil because before sleeping I read an Aladin book.
That’s my story. Although it’s only a dream, I believe it will happen in my future life.

On Sunday

It was Sunday. Billy and his friend didn’t go to school, so they planned to clean the bedroom. They also cleaned the bathroom and living room. They made the bed, swept and mopped the floor, dusted the furniture and rearranged all their books. “Now everything looks so clean and tidy,” said Billy.
After they finished with the rooms, they went to the garden. They cut the grass, swept the dirty leaves, and watered the plants. Mother was very happy and very proud of them. She gave Billy and his friends a delicious breakfast of fried rice and scrambled eggs.
